How much does it cost to educate the children you support?
It costs roughly $500 USD to support a secondary
school child in boarding school per year in Uganda. Since the
Dobbyn Foundation makes a commitment for financial support over 4
years, that amount is roughly $2000 USD per child. Please click here to make an online donation today.
Why support children in Africa when many children in the United States or the United Kingdom are in need of help as well?
The best answer revolves around the term
of “opportunity.” A majority of children in the US or
the UK have an opportunity to go to secondary school, despite numerous
hardships, family problems, or a variety of other extremely important
factors. In most parts of East Africa, children will never have an
opportunity to go to secondary school because of a lack of financial
resources. While the educational systems of the US and the UK are
in need of additional resources, they receive considerable
institutional and private support from multiple local, regional and
national agencies and organizations. All US and UK students are
provided with the opportunity to attend school and pursue their
ambitions, whereas a majority of East African children will never
receive this opportunity due to financial constraints.
How does the Dobbyn Foundation ensure that money fundraised reaches the children?
The Dobbyn Foundation has very tight
controls in all respects concerning money transfers. The
international wire transfers are sent directly from our financial
institution directly to our affiliate in Uganda. Our affiliate
communicates with us on each financial transaction and provides us with
receipts each time this occurs. In addition, school receipts are
produced for each payment made concerning each individual child.
Lastly, field visits and hard copies of all wire transfers and receipts
are stored with the Executive Director of the Dobbyn Foundation.
We take numerous additional precautions to ensure full transparency,
accountability and oversight with all money coming into and out of the
Dobbyn Foundation.
How is the Dobbyn Foundation funded?
The Dobbyn Foundation is funded by
people like you, who desire to make a difference. We encourage
all people to donate as little or as much as they can afford.
Please donate through our website at www.dobbynfoundation.org or via the US mail at the address listed below. Currently, we
have not received any other grants or large scale donations which is
why every dollar counts.
What proportion of the Dobbyn Foundation’s money goes directly to supporting children in Africa?
Our goal operational efficiency ratio is
stated to be around 80-85% for 2006 and 2007 due to start-up and
fundraising costs. For our third fiscal year, we are projecting
to have an operational efficiency ratio of around exceeding 90%.
This means that our goal is for every $90 out of $100 to go directly to
support scholarship programs.
How is the Dobbyn Foundation staffed?
The Dobbyn Foundation is a 100%
volunteer organized staff. All members of the Board of Directors
are unpaid and fundamentally believe education is a basic human right
which everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy, regardless of
nationality, age, religion or ethnicity.
What is the Dobbyn Foundations greatest need?
The Dobbyn Foundation’s greatest
need is your donation. Funding secondary school children is
expensive and we will only make a commitment of a secondary school
education when 4 years or more are available. There are many
children that need our financial support, however we will only fund
those that are selected and we can sustain for 4 years.
How do I contact someone directly with further questions about your organization as opposed to using the info@dobbynfoundation.org email address?
Any further questions can be addressed to the Executive Director, Kevin Bouchard at kbouchard@dobbynfoundation.org. However the info@dobbynfoundation.org email box is reviewed almost every single day, so communication should not be a problem. |
